What is the tax rate for a forex market? A year ago, I invested couple thousand dollars in the Forex market. I have more to lose than win. Overall, I have earned about $ 7000.00 (my loss is greater than this value). My question is what would the tax rate for this increase in capital for this type of situation. Did you know to keep track of pending state taxed under the IRC 1256 (rules for capital gains) rather than IRC 988 (ordinary interest income)? If yes, then when receiving the 1099 end of year get a 60/40 split of the activity on your schedule D. 40% is treated as short-term, 60% and long term.
